What Type of Truck Should I Expect on Moving Day?
Every move is different, and that’s why there are several types of moving trucks that might be chosen by the movers for your big day. Regardless of the type of truck that is used for your move, you can rest assured that your movers will arrive with the equipment they need (e.g. furniture pads, dollies, ramps) to provide you with a hassle-free moving experience. Here are some common reasons why you might have a vehicle other than a standard 53’ tractor trailer arrive when you move.
You Move Coordinator will Assess the Truck Size You Need
Shipment Size
One factor that we use to determine what type of moving vehicle you will need is the size of your shipment. For example, if your move is on the smaller scale, a smaller trailer or straight truck may be used. If your belongings will be shipped using containers, a straight truck or flatbed truck may be issued.
Time of Year
Peak Moving Season — When you book your move through Liberty Moving, when the demand for movers is very high (April–August is typically considered peak moving season), we will select either United or Mayflower, to ensure truck availability so we can move you on schedule.
Winter Weather — If there is snow buildup on the side of the roads, this may prohibit a tractor trailer from accessing your residence; in that case, a shuttle may be used to transport your goods to the larger moving vehicle.
City and Street Restrictions
• Trucks 53 feet and over may not be allowed
• Bridge weight capacity limits
• Low hanging power lines
• Narrow and/or limited street access
• Tight or compromised driveways and/or clearances
If it is determined that your street is too restrictive for a tractor trailer, a shuttle may be used to transport your goods from your house to the larger moving truck. Please note that shuttles may be subject to additional charges. Consult your Move coordinator for more information.
Local Brands
Liberty Moving is an independently owned local moving business. They affiliate with and provide interstate moving services under United and Mayflower’s authority to provide customers with seamless interstate moves. Agents may occasionally use trucks with their own local branding to service moves.
