St. Joseph’s Hospital was founded in 1867 by its sponsors, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. Today, Paterson’s first hospital has grown in size and scope of service to encompass a leading academic comprehensive medical center and a state-designated trauma center, a state-designated children’s hospital, an acute care community hospital, a nursing home, health services for the homebound, and more than four dozen outpatient sites known collectively as St. Joseph’s Healthcare System.

St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital, which joined St. Joseph’s Healthcare System in 2001, is a 229-bed acute care community hospital that provides comprehensive medical and surgical care, emergency and diagnostic services to the residents of Wayne and communities in northern New Jersey.
